Konglungen, coastal path

Konglungen has a lot to offer – even in late fall and winter. An exciting tour destination for many locals.

Parking at Spiredammen in the middle of Konglungen. The coastal path is marked from here. Turn right from the parking lot and follow the hiking trail past Spiradammen and further down towards Spirabukta. Spiradamm was one of Asker's largest ice ponds. Cutting and shipping of ice employed many people during the winter and was a major industry until 1940 when new cooling and freezing methods had taken over.

Follow the trail along the bay, a good fishing spot for sea trout and cod. Between the Løkenes farm and the beach there is a protected forest area with pleasant hiking trails. Go back the same way and follow the hiking trail along Spirabukta and up to the junction at Gamle Konglungvei, then turn right and soon you have the Ovnsbråten on your right. Remains of a lime kiln have been found here. Lime burning was also an important industry in Asker and Bærum. Lime was used as a binder in mortar and plaster and as a soil improvement agent. Around 1830 there were 40 lime distilleries in operation in Asker and Bærum. From the turn of the century until the 1950s, shrimp fishing was the main commercial activity in the area in addition to renting out holiday homes.

Cross the bridge to the island and follow the road to the East Bay and the island's oldest house "Strandsitterhuset". The red house houses an exhibition and is open from May to September. On the return journey follow the eastern part of Old Konglungvei before turning right and follow the path along the shoreline to Esvika and then back to Spiradammen.

To arm up and enjoy a pleasant time together, we recommend the trip up to the Leangkollen Hotel which is known for its good food and food traditions. A delicious Sunday buffet is regularly offered here, and take time to enjoy the beautiful view of the Oslo Fjord should both in summer and winter.

We wish you a nice day.

Hike Son to Drøbak

There is a train to Sonsveien station and from there it is just over 3 km to Son and the coastal path. Follow the pedestrian and cycle path, path and small roads to Son SPA and Hotel. Continue along the rocky slopes to the north or take the walking path past the tennis court, past Sonstranda and cozy small roads with white-painted houses further towards the centre. The Dørnberger house in Strandgata dates back to the 17th century and the eccentric painter Carl Dørnberger lived here in the period 1896-1940. Son was an artists' town at the beginning of the 20th century. In the center there is a large guest harbour, summer boat from Oslo, brewery life and restaurants. Son Kystkultursenter is also located here. Son was an important timber port during the Dutch era in the 16th century. Timber and lumber were exported to the Dutch states, and Dutch goods were imported.

Over the bridge at the marina, the tour continues on pavement along Kolåsveien, but soon turns off towards the golf course and eventually onto a gravel road towards Kjøvangen pier and beach. Several beaches await; Hulvik beach, Krokstrand free area and Emmerstad Bay. Along the way, the path goes up to the viewpoint Stjernåsen. There are several signs with information about alternative routes. At the heart of Emmerstad bay, the path continues at the water's edge, so here there can be challenges if there is high tide. The stairs above Okseryggen are steep, but with a nice view, before it continues through the cabin area.

Hvitsten is a small, cozy place with a wharf, a beautiful wooden church and ship history. Many of the figureheads of Fred. Olsen's shipping company is on display in the parks. Close by is Nedre Ramme, which was Edvard Munch's villa from 1910. Here you can follow the cultural trail "In Munch's footsteps" and see the remains of the Cairns from the Bronze Age. The beautiful Ramme Gård today contains a baroque garden, gallery, café and concert stage. Here it is possible to stay overnight at Ramme Fjordhotell. Sagakollen nearby also offers accommodation in self-service cabins.

Between Kjeppestadbukta and Skiphelle there are several options. Closest to the water's edge, the route runs along rocky beaches, rocky outcrops and small woodlands. Some parts can be slippery and a bit demanding. Another option is along cottage roads with some path further up the hill. Just before Skiphellebukta, there is a commemorative plaque for the D/S Donau – a German ship that was sunk by, among others, Max Manus during World War II. From the bay, you can follow Skiphelleveien/Elleveien or continue along the rock cliffs if there is no high tide. At Torkildstranda is Galleri Finsrud with art by Reidar Finsrud. The gallery is located in an old ceramics factory. Finsrud is behind the bronze sculptures "Mermaids" and "Neptune" in Drøbak harbour.

The last section towards Drøbak is on cozy small roads. The streets are narrow, the houses are white and the roses smell of summer. Here, the Oslofjord is at its narrowest and the ferrywoman Jacobine, who in the 19th century rowed people across the fjord in all kinds of weather, is honored with a statue and a separate historical walking route; Jacobin route. In the beginning, Drøbak was a modest beach town with fishermen's huts before, at the beginning of the 18th century, it grew in population and wealth through the export of "Dutch beams" (timber) and blocks of ice. Eventually, the city became well known as a resort and seaside resort and attracted many of the country's most famous painters who frequented the Reenskaug Hotel.

The Christmas house is open all year round and the Drøbak Aquarium shows the wildlife of the Oslofjord. In the square there are several cozy cafes and in Badeparken there are grasslands, jetties and a beach. In the summer there is a boat between Oslo and Drøbak. Oscarsborg fortress is a short boat ride away from the Sund pier.

The trip is a total of just over 2 miles. A few km of high traffic load are included in the trail.

Route description:
From Kløfta station, turn left onto Trondheimsveien when standing with your back towards the station building. Turn left at the roundabout and follow Kongsvingerveien over E6 to Ullensaker church. If you want a look along the walls of Ullersmo National Prison, take Ullersmoveien to the right after passing the railway exit, and Ilevegen to the left back to Kongsvingerveien.

Just after the bridge over the E6 there is an old venue on the left side, Galgeberg. No visible traces of business today. On the right is Miklagard Golf.
Turn left down the hill past Ullensaker church. This church, also known as the Roman Empire, was built in 1958 after the old burned, and was designed by Arnstein Arneberg. Just a mile past the church, turn right into the Løken Cross, towards Flatby and Hamar. Turn left at Flatby Cross to Myrhus and Hamar. Follow the Rambydalsvegen north through the Rambydalen. After passing the residential area on Flatbyseter, turn left, Old Algarheimsvei, which passes through the residential areas and onto Algarheims road towards Jessheim city center. At the roundabout, turn left onto Old Trondheimsvei. Follow this in bridge over E6 and further towards Kløfta. This stretch has high traffic loads and there is no bike path here and is not recommended for children.

Take the road to the left, signposted Ullensaker church, follow this underground underneath the railway and bridge over the E6. Note the historic road signs before crossing the railway. The road goes through the cultural landscape and you will eventually follow the same road as you came past Ullensaker church.

Follow Kongsvingervegen, RV 2 towards Kløfta and back to Kløfta station.

Trandumforest

Trandum forest is a national monument – but it is also a place where people like to go for a hike.

It is also the remains of a tank training ground, often called the tank firing range.

The course was built by the Germans during the Second World War. The shooting range consists of several large walls in reinforced concrete with openings, without a superstructure.

The walls, up to 10 meters high, stand at intervals of a few meters, and the course ends in a rampart . The track is approx. 300 meters long. The walls were to act as a large silencer for practice shooting, as well as to stop boom shots. Although the walls have some marks from such boom shots, the intention was to shoot through all the openings to hit the embankment at the end. The tank shooting range is accessible to the public, and is located close to the memorial in Trandumskogen, which has been set up in memory of those who were shot here during the war.

The memorial is made of light Iddefjord granite and conducted by Per Palle Storm. The memorial is written:

"I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM IN THE WAR IN NORWAY 1940 – 1945. Here in the forest Trandum 173 Norwegians, 15 Soviet and 6 Brite executed enemies."

Right behind is a name plate on the executed. 18 grave sites / places of the north of the memorial is marked by numbered stone cross. Every 17 May morning will be held at the memorial monument.

There are guiding tours which can be ordered from www.mia.no –  ullensaker.museum@mia.no

4. Bicycle tour on Romerike, starting from the Quality Airport Hotel Gardermoen

Varied round trip east of the airport along the Pilgrimsruta and with long distances on nice gravel roads in the forest.

Tour description

This tour begins at the hotels located east of the airport. Feel free to stop by the iconic Kepler star and see it up close. It is a great eye-catcher for everyone driving to the airport. At the Modern Activity Center it is possible to test e.g. Norway's roughest wind tunnel.

The bicycle route continues eastwards and eventually northwards along the National Bicycle Route 7 Pilgrim route which runs all the way from Halden to Trondheim. It is signposted with red signs and runs on a separate bicycle path through fields and forest.

It leads into the forest on nice gravel roads. You eventually cross the highway, but apart from that it is quiet and calm and almost a magical atmosphere when the forest gets denser. It also goes through fields and farmyards and the surface becomes more of a cart track and path, but still completely bicycle able. Past Hauerseter there is asphalt and low-traffic roads through residential areas, before it becomes gravel again. Look for both blueberries and raspberries along the roadside.

The last part of the trip goes along an walking and bicycling path back to the hotels.

The route passes Hauerseter train station and can also begin and end from here.
