Sustainability destination – Asker municipality

Asker is becoming a more sustainable destination!

Visit Greater Oslo, in collaboration with Asker Municipality, has started the process of achieving Innovation Norway’s “Sustainable Destination” label over a two-year period. The work is being carried out in cooperation with the tourism industry within the municipality.

The national labeling scheme means that the destination works systematically for more sustainable tourism development, identifying challenges and opportunities to develop the area with a focus on environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The label is a useful tool for managing the destination and can contribute to increased value creation, more jobs, lower emissions, and more satisfied residents and guests.

The project is being led by representatives from the tourism industry and the municipality. We look forward to working with skilled colleagues from Asker Municipality, Museums in Akershus, Quality Hotel Leangkollen, Håøya Nature Workshop, Asker Business Association, Akershus County Municipality, Mimir, and Innovation Norway.

Guidance and best practices for responsible marketing in Asker

Asker is in the process of being certified as a Sustainable Destination by Innovation Norway. This certification entails a commitment to ensure responsible marketing and promotion of tourism in the municipality of Asker, with respect for nature, culture, local communities, and visitors.

We have made a guide and the purpose is to bring together best practices and key guidelines for responsible marketing in one single document. While the guide is intended for internal use, we hope it may also be useful for our partners. Together, we aim to foster a clear culture in which sustainability and strong values are at the core.

The guide outlines both general and specific guidelines for responsible marketing in Asker.

Our communication represents the public face of the destination, and it is essential that we present Asker in a way that provides visitors with realistic expectations of the experiences on offer. Consideration must be given to the needs of the local community, and all marketing activities must comply with applicable laws, regulations, and recommendations. Please get in touch if you want the guide.

Resident and community survey in Asker

To ensure the sustainable development of Asker as a destination, both a resident survey and a visitor survey have been conducted. This work is in line with the requirements of the Sustainable Destination certification.

The surveys provide valuable insight into what it is like to live in, visit, and experience Asker, from the perspectives of both residents and visitors. The visitor survey was concluded in November 2025, while the resident survey was completed in January 2026.

The responses help guide future initiatives and decision‑making, enabling Asker to continue developing as an attractive, responsible, and sustainable destination for everyone. Please get in touch if you want to read the surveys.
