Cycling around Lake Hurda

Are you ready for a nature-filled and rewarding cycling trip? Then "Cycling around Hurdalsjøen" is the perfect choice! This approximately 54 km loop takes you around Hurdal’s largest lake and offers a rare combination of tranquility, scenic views, historic cultural landscapes, and proximity to water. Starting from Hurdalsjøen Hotel, you’ll roll straight into the heart of Eastern Norway’s natural paradise.

Directions

Start your trip at Hurdalsjøen Hotel, and turn left onto the west side road of the lake (important, follow the main road towards Gardermoen). Here you’ll ride through beautiful stretches of forest and farmland in varied terrain. After a few kilometers along the water, the landscape opens up, offering spectacular views of the lake in several places.

After about 19 km, you’ll enter Nannestad municipality and come to a large roundabout (Nordmokorset). Take the left exit here and follow Sessolvegen towards Best Western Leto Arena

At 23.5 km, you’ll be near the Best Western Leto Arena – a great place to stop for a game of padel or some indoor climbing at Høyt under taket.

Next, turn left again at the next roundabout, passing Best Western Leto Arena, cross the E6 highway, and continue toward Råholt center. There are alternative routes available to avoid going through Råholt center, which are slightly longer. There's also a shorter detour near the former Sundby Bridge by the E6.

Follow Trondheimsvegen through Råholt. After passing Eidsvoll Verk Station, you have the option to turn off the main road onto Carsten Ankers Veg to the right, leading you past the historic Eidsvoll Manor, here you can have a guided tour or just stop to take som nice pictures, or a coffee at the café.

Continue past the manor and across a bridge– take a left turn here just before a roundabout. Go straight through the roundabout to get onto Østre Hurdalveg.

For those who prefer longer rides, it’s also possible to continue along Trondheimsvegen toward Minnesund, and return to Hurdal via Minneåsen.

Follow Østre Hurdalveg northbound toward Hurdal. Before entering the town, you’ll again cross the E6, pass Nebbenes, and a few livestock crossings.

You’ll soon see Lake Hurdal again, with lovely lakeside stretches along the way – perfect for a refreshing swim at one of the many scenic bathing spots. A longer climb awaits past the cabin area in Bogen, before you roll down to Hurdal Blindesenter and Haraldvangen, then enjoy the final stretch through Hurdal center on your way back to Hurdalsjøen Hotel.

Along the route, you'll pass popular swimming spots like Åsand and Meieirodden, as well as several cafés and eateries worth stopping by for a break

4. Bicycle tour on Romerike, starting from the Quality Airport Hotel Gardermoen

Varied round trip east of the airport along the Pilgrimsruta and with long distances on nice gravel roads in the forest.

Tour description

This tour begins at the hotels located east of the airport. Feel free to stop by the iconic Kepler star and see it up close. It is a great eye-catcher for everyone driving to the airport. At the Modern Activity Center it is possible to test e.g. Norway's roughest wind tunnel.

The bicycle route continues eastwards and eventually northwards along the National Bicycle Route 7 Pilgrim route which runs all the way from Halden to Trondheim. It is signposted with red signs and runs on a separate bicycle path through fields and forest.

It leads into the forest on nice gravel roads. You eventually cross the highway, but apart from that it is quiet and calm and almost a magical atmosphere when the forest gets denser. It also goes through fields and farmyards and the surface becomes more of a cart track and path, but still completely bicycle able. Past Hauerseter there is asphalt and low-traffic roads through residential areas, before it becomes gravel again. Look for both blueberries and raspberries along the roadside.

The last part of the trip goes along an walking and bicycling path back to the hotels.

The route passes Hauerseter train station and can also begin and end from here.

Hurdalsjøen by bike

The nature in Hurdal is magnificent, with wooded hills surrounding Hurdalssjøen. The buildings are located around the sea and extend up the valleys – a nice mix of traditional hamlets and modern construction sites, which together form an attractive cultural landscape. In Hurdal’s large forest areas, there are miles of forest roads and paths where you can discover the surroundings on two wheels. Hurdal offers over 40 lakes with fishing and swimming opportunities and fantastic views, such as Fjellsjøkampen, Akershus’ highest point.

You stay at Hurdalsjøen Hotel, located in the middle of an eldorado of nature experiences. The hotel is an architectural gem that is beautifully reflected in Hurdalsjøen and they place great emphasis on art. As they see it, well-being is something more than fantastic food and drink from Eastern Norway’s dishes. It is also something more than feeling the body find its way back to itself in their new Spa. Wellness is also when you tickle or tease the intellect through art.

Bicycle tour on Romerike, Jessheim/Kløfta round trip

Two different options between the Ullensaker locations Jessheim and Kløfta. Choose between a country road through forested areas or the "commuter route" on pedestrian and bicycle paths – or both!

The trip is described as starting from Kløfta but could just as easily start from Jessheim. The eastern part of the tour is signposted as National Cycle Route 7 and is part of the Pilgrims Route that runs from Halden to Trondheim. The landscape is characterized by a lot of cultivated land with farms and great cornfields. A few kilometres go through a forested area where it is a bit uphill. There is moderate to little traffic here. At Gystad, it is pleasant along Gamle Algarheimveg with a dirt road and through a residential area.

From Jessheim there is some bicycling through the traffic, but the pedestrian- and bicycle path begins quite quickly, and it takes you through the roundabouts to the south and eventually on fast, nice roads with a great view of the open Romeriks landscape. This distance is popular with commuters, so there are often several other bicyclists here. You will find rest area along the way.

The old road into Kløfta has little traffic and the route passes shopping center Romeriksenteret before ending at Kløfta train station.
