Floating tents on Helgøya island

Accommodation of the year at Helgøya – Tree tents (Stingray).
Helgøya Climbing Adventure Park has five tree-tents for hire. Each tent sleeps three adults. The tents can be set up at a location of your choice, but you are very welcome to “hang around” in the forest here at Helgøya Climbing Adventure Park, close to our cosy woodland shelter.

The woodland shelter is in a secluded setting within easy reach of the climbing park, and has a campfire with firewood at hand. There are also outdoor toilet facilities available to those spending the night in a tree tent.

A full day in the high-ropes park followed by meal by the campfire and a night in a tree tent is the perfect outdoor adventure!

Kirsten Flagstad Museum

Norway’s most famous international opera singer was born at Hamar

Kirsten Flagstad is Norway’s most famous international opera singer. She was born at Hamar in 1895, in Strandstuen – a small house which today is Hamar’s oldest building and home to the Kirsten Flagstad Museum. The collection was officially opened in 1985 by the then Minister of Cultural Affairs, and on the date that would have marked Kirsten’s 90th birthday. “I always tell people that I come from Hamar; it is something I am very proud of, and I still feel that Hamar is my town!” These were Kirsten's word in an interview about Hedmarken and Hamar in 1958, and visitors to Kirsten Flagstad’s Strandstuen will be in no doubt that Hamar is still Kirsten's town.

Overnight fame at the Metropolitan Opera

Kirsten grew up in a very musical family, and her talent was obvious already at a young age. In 1935, she became an overnight international sensation when she made her début at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York as Siegelinde in Wagner's opera Die Walküre. The museum has a unique collection of costumes, props, photos, and artefacts reflecting the artist’s life both on and off the opera stage.

It also features Kirsten Flagstad Opera Hall of Fame, which celebrates the country’s best opera singers – past and present. Listen to her repertoire on CD or LP in the museum.

Wergelandshaugen

The old Magistrate's Villa from the 1920s has been converted into a stately meeting place. Traditional craftsmanship and historical references have been central to the restoration.

Wergelandshaugen is a place for a festive occasion, wedding, baptism, confirmation, memorial service, seminar or meeting place for colleagues and friends.

Wergelandshaugen has a beautiful and peaceful location, here you will immediately notice the tranquility that rural surroundings can provide. In the associated English garden, you can see and smell the plants and flowers from ancient times, back to the Middle Ages. The historic garden has been painstakingly restored to the 1920s, according to photographs and with contemporary plants. New this year is the portal to the forest and the balance park for children and young people.

You are invited to art experiences both outside and inside. Twice a year, Wergelandshaugen has artists in residence and various art exhibitions are held. There is also a sculpture park on the property where the sculptures appear as surprises placed in the scenic surroundings of the ravine landscape.

Wergelandshaugen is accessible by train, 35 minutes from Oslo S or 10 minutes from Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen, then a 5-minute walk from Eidsvoll station. If you drive and arrive by car, it takes 50 minutes from the center of Oslo, large car park at the end of the property.
