The oven museum at Bærums Verk

The styles and designs shown strech from the baroque periode in the 1700´s up to the end of production in 1964. Bærums Verk produced the cast iron bridge  "Løkke Bro" in Sandvika also know as "Claude Monets Bridge" which figures in his paintings from when the artist visited Sandvika.

The museum is open in summer from mid-May to around September and is open from around 11am to 5pm.

Peder Balke-Senteret

Welcome to the Peder Balke-center!

In a listed building from the 18th century, gorgeously situated on a hillside facing the lake, you will find our gallery. Inside is the ballroom which Peder Balke decorated with 12 wallpaintings in 1834. In addition to the wall paintings, in summer we host temporary exhibitions featuring the work of contemporary artists.

Peder Balke was a pioneer in 19th century Scandinavian landscape painting. In his pictures, he united the naturalistic vein of the romantic movement with a unique exploration of painting techniques. In recent years, interest in Balke's work has been steadily increasing, first with the exhibition Peder Balke – Vision and Revolution at the Nordnorsk Art Museum in 2014. This exhibition was a collaboration with the National Gallery, culminating in the Peder Balke exhibition in London in the period November 2014-April 2015). In April 2017, the exhibition Peder Balke – Painter of Northern Light opened at The Metropolitan in New York.

Aulie mill

There have been mills here since the 17th century, while today's mill was ready in 1909 after the old one burned down. In 1919, the mill was modernized and a separate power station with electricity supply was established. This ensured electricity for the farm under which the mill is located, as well as 20 other subscribers in the neighbourhood.

It is stated that the mill ground 296 tonnes of rye, wheat, barley and oats.

During the Second World War, grain was ground at night without the Germans knowing about it. A watch was then kept around the area to scout for suspicious vehicles.

The mill was in operation until the 1980s. After this, it became part of Ne's collections in the museum, before it passed into private hands again. These now want to display the mill for public viewing again.

The stable, which is connected to the mill, was repaired in 2019, and stands today as it was when it was new, and the horses needed a place to rest.

The Møller house is in original condition, and is used today as a summer residence.

Grini Museum

In Grini prison there were prisoners from all over the country, and almost all professions and classes of the population were represented. At first everyone was in the prison building, but it soon became overcrowded and a "barracks city" was built. Today the Grini Museum is located in one of these barracks.

On Thursdays, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, you can experience Grini prison through VR. The VR experience lasts about 15 minutes and is included in the ticket price.

On Sundays, there is an introduction to the history of Grini prison at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. The lecture lasts about 20 minutes and is included in the ticket price.

We also offer private tours, lectures, performances and VR experiences for smaller and larger groups outside the museum's regular opening hours. This can be booked by sending us an email at grinimuseet@mia.no. Read more about our tours: https://mia.no/grinimuseet/gruppetilbud

The museum does not have a café, but sells coffee, tea, mineral water and muffins/lefser that can be enjoyed in the outdoor area.

In our small museum shop it is possible to buy books about Grini prison camp and World War II as well as postcards and some other products.

Throughout the year there are concerts, theatre performances, lectures and talks at the museum. Follow our website to see what's happening: https://mia.no/grinimuseet/kalender

Klevfos Industrial Museum

Klevfos Cellulose & Paper Mill is a piece of industrial history from the time when wood processing was our largest export industry. The fabric Mill was founded at Ådalsbruk, Løten municipality, approx. 15 km east of Hamar, in 1888.

Today, the old industrial environment by Svartelva (The Black River) in Løten plays an important role in documenting the cellulose and paper production. The factory stands as it did in 1976, the tours take you through the various departments, and you can follow the process from timber to finished paper.

The museum has a large open area with dam facilities and channels. There are benches, picnic tables and playground equipment for the children. In the nearby area, there are good options for hiking. You can also make your own paper by hand.

The museum is located in the same area as the Munch Center. Edvard Munch was born at Engelaug østre at Ådalsbruk, in 1863, near by Klevfos. Munch spent a lot of time here as a child when he visited Engelaug. Inside the center you will learn about Munch's childhood and his relationship with Løten, and you can see more of his early drawings from the area.
