Visitor Centre Wetland, Northern Øyeren

Welcome to our child-friendly hands-on exhibition at Visitor Centre Wetland, Northern Øyeren, the largest inland delta in Northern Europe.
Our overall aim is to get children of all ages interested in nature, especially wetlands, and enjoy nature which in turn hopefully will turn them into guardians of our nature and contribute to its future protection.

Description of the centre

Our award-winning visitor centre is a 300 m2 building filled with exhibitions (lots of interactivity for children), a café and a small shop for the visitor. The main focus in the exhibitions is regional nature and wetlands. The wetland centre is open every weekend all year and also during some holidays and through the summertime. The centre lies on the threshold to one of the largest ramsar site in Norway and has a beautiful view into the Northern Europe’s largest inland delta. The visitor centre has beautiful surroundings and a walk path following the river through a nationally protected timber floating site (Fetsund Lenser). Our centre has approximately 25 000 visitors per year and around 3.000 children are joining our education programs each year.

We are open during weekend all year around
Saturday 12:00-16:00 and Sunday 11:00-16:00
Welcome!

Hunting and fishing

Akershus is rich in hunting and fishing grounds. In terms of hunting, the region offers everything from tradional Norwegain elk hunting in densely forested border country to beaver trapping along the river Glomma. Glomma and Vorma rivers offer a variety of fishing opportunities and a broad range freshwater fish. The most popular species are pike, grayling and perch, while smaller tributaries and numerous tarns are wellstocked with trout. Using our large network of contacts, we at the “Utmark” department for Akershus and Østfold can put you in touch with specialists in providing hunting and fishing experiences and/or traditional accomodation. We can also assist in organising trips. For an overview of backwoods activities, accomodation, fishing guides, boat hire, maps etc., visit our wesite at http://www.bopalandet.no/ or http://www.fiskeland.no/

Semsvannet lake – walk

Since 1992, the Semsvannet lake and surrounding landscape has had the status of a protected landscape area. This is due to the animal and plant life, history and geology of the area. Prior to the year 2000, Semsvannet was also voted place of the millennium by the citizens of Asker. The walk around the lake is approx.  5.5 km. Here, you can walk, run or cycle. Semsvannet is also good for fishing, and there are also several great bathing spots.

Around the water you can see several well-preserved smallholdings, with pastures for farm animals and restaurants. Asker’s highest waterfall can also be seen on the walk around the lake.

NaKuHel is a gateway for recreational routes.

The Halden Canal

Push the boat out

Norway’s Halden Canal offers a splendid mix of culture and relaxation. Constructed in the 1850s, the Halden Canal remains fully functional and is recognised as a site of national technical-industrial heritage. The canal is 80km long with three elaborate lock systems – one of which, in Brekke, is the highest in north Europe. The Canal Museum at Ørie offers an overview of its history and functions, while a boat trip aboard M/S Brekke provides the opportunity to enjoy a cosy meal and the beautiful nature in the canal area.

One of the best ways to explore the system is to take a paddling tour, staying overnight at one of the quality hotels, campsites or cabins.

The Halden Canal region offers:

If you want to go fishing outside Follo, Fiskeland invites you to experience the world-class angling in the heart of Norway!

In Østfold and Akershus counties, located in the south-east part of Norway, a wonderful variety of fishing experiences await you, including pike fishing in the large lakes of the Halden river valley, fly-fishing for grayling in the lazy currents of the Vorma river, and fishing for hungry brown trout that crowd the many small and silent lakes that lay hidden in the pine forests of Østfold.

If you are a passionate fisherman, the chance to explore on your own is an important part of the fishing experience. Our website will give you excellent local information and all the details you need to plan the perfect fishing trip to our part of Norway. We’ve even included a special selection of ideally located cabins and houses for your stay.

These idyllic houses and cabins are available through our carefully developed network of local farmers and landowners – many of whom can trace their families back in this area for hundreds of years – who wish you a warm welcome to the shores of our quiet forest lakes, trout rivers and pike lakes. Even your fishing card can be arrange through your host!

Rock carvings and wildlife tour to Dælivann

The cultural landscape below Kolsåstoppen is an exciting area with traces of early settlements, rich wildlife and connections to famous painters such as Christian Skredsvig and his work "The Boy with the flute" that is displayed in the National Gallery and here we also find rare petroglyphs from the early Iron Age that are important for depicting and understanding our ship history.

At Dalbo, there are the first traces of one of the most important technological innovations in shipping in the years around the birth of Christ. The rock carvings of ships on the rock surfaces at Dalbo show the transition from ships that are paddled to ships that are rowed. This development took place sometime between 500 BC and the first centuries after Christ. The development of the rowing ship opened up to be able to build larger boats and cross over longer stretches of sea. The new technology that developed changed the cultural conditions in Norway and the Nordic countries, in the form of increased interaction, cultural influence, trade and warfare.

Dælivann is located in an area that "has the most": ancient cultural landscape, silence, burial mounds and traces of early settlements, old manor sites, carvings from the Bronze and Iron Age as well as lush farms. The area is rich in bird life, insects, flowers and trees. Here you can explore trails and a mosaic of habitats from swamps, streams and freshwater areas through rich cultural sites to varied forest environments, with exciting topography and geology including flat cultural sites, steep slopes and cliffs, where you can experience the two great peaks of Kolsås with extrodinary view over the Oslo area and the Oslo Fjord. Explore trails, nature trail with signs and popular climbing routes depending on available time and skills.

A cultural and nature trail has been created. The path is approx. 3 km that goes into the mixed forest which is part of the Skotta and Dalbo nature reserve.

And in winter time you can fish for roach, perch and pike, and there is an opportunity to go ice skating on Dælivannet.

The tour starts at the Godthaab bus stop. Arrival by own car or 30 min by bus 150 from Oslo / Lysaker. Approximately 1km to enter the cultural landscape from the bus stop, stroll around Dæhlivann (approx. 5km).

Alt 1 – Explore the nature reserve by the lake and the rock carvings. A stroll on dirt roads and trails.

Alt 2 – A hike in the nature reserve with a tour to the Kolsås Summit. A steep climb up to the top of the Kolsås. A 4 hour tour. You have to bring your lunch box and thermos.
