Nittedal offers a wide range of beautiful swimming spots for people of all ages. Most are located in the forested areas (Marka) surrounding the village or along the river that winds through the valley. See the map for locations and access points.
Svarttjern is located at the southern end of the valley, on the border between Skillebekk and Holum Forest, with access from Tjernslia. It features a swimming pier, benches, and a small designated area for young children. The site is easily accessible from the Vestli metro terminus and the Skillebekk bus stop.
Morttjern, situated at Gjelleråsen, lies just a few meters from the road and is very easy to access near Würth’s headquarters and Holumskogen School. It offers a well-developed swimming area with a sandy beach, floating pier, and plenty of space for family outings.
Romstjern is beautifully located in the forest along the historic Gamle Bergensvei, a short distance from Skytta. This is a more natural woodland lake and is not especially adapted for small children, but its scenic surroundings make it a popular spot for a refreshing swim.
Kjulstjern, in Lillomarka not far from Sørskogen, is an idyllic swimming spot deep in the forest. It can be reached on foot from Skytta, Slattum, Haugeråsen, or the Sagtomta parking area. From Sagtomta, a well-maintained gravel path makes it accessible for strollers and electric wheelchairs. The lake has a year-round fire pit with seating, a path leading to a sandy beach with a pier, and several smooth rocks and peaceful areas for swimming and relaxing.
Hermanspytten, located at the lower end of Ørfiskebekken in Rotnes, is a hidden gem near Bjertnes Upper Secondary School. It is especially well suited for families with young children thanks to the shallow water.
Høldippeldammen is a well-known and idyllic swimming area north of Nittedal station, accessible via a short walk through Tumyrhaugen. It is lively on warm summer days and features green areas, diving boards, piers, and shallow zones ideal for children. Toilets are available during the summer months.
Ørfiske is a moderately sized lake located partly on the border between Oslo and Nittedal, northwest of Rotnes. It is easily accessible via a wide gravel road from the Sørli ski stadium, which continues around large parts of the lake. There are several designated picnic and swimming areas, as well as interesting spots to explore between swims.
Rulsedammen, part of the Nitelva river, is easily reached from Åneby and Tøyen, just a short walk from the Rulseveien bus stop (or a slightly longer walk from Åneby train station). The area is ideal for families with young children and offers a sandy beach, as well as rocky outcrops suitable for older children and teenagers. As swimming takes place in a river, extra caution should be taken due to possible currents.
Verksdammen in Hakadal, near Hakadal Verk, is closed for swimming due to safety reasons related to the dam.
Klopptjern is a small forest lake located on the hillside east of Ås Farm in Hakadal. It can be reached on foot from Gruveveien or Ås Farm.
Indoor swimming
For year-round swimming, Elvetangen Pool in Hakadal and Libadet in southern Nittedal are indoor facilities open throughout the year. Both offer public access during both daytime and evening hours several days a week. Visit the Nittedal municipality website for detailed information.
